The Warwick Foundation was officially launched at the In My Shoes
gala dinner held at the Melbourne Docklands on 31 October 2008.
Hosted by ambassador and breakfast radio host, Tom Gleeson, the event
featured inspiring speeches from young adult cancer survivor, Kass Hall,
founder, Samantha Lehmann and board member, Dr David Thomas.
The gala was a major success with 480 guests attending, including many
young adult cancer survivors. Guests helped raise $40,000 to help young
adults on their cancer journey.
Funds raised will go towards our 'Mates In My Shoes' program, which will
form a support network for young adult cancer patients and survivors and
help curb the isolation many of them feel. The first step of this
program will be the distribution of posters to all medical centres and
hospitals around Australia. Money raised will also go towards the
creation of journey kits and an online directory, which will provide
essential information to young adults living with cancer.
One of the highlights of the night was the live shoe auction was
conducted by energetic Milo Rasinec and the team from Nelson Alexander
Real Estate. Celebrity shoes auctioned off included:
- Kal Knight from Kath Kim - $300
- Kate Ceberano - $470
- Natalie Bassingthwaite - $700
- Lauren Jackson - $850
- Eric Bana - $700
- Adam Cooney - $1350
- Shane Warne - $2250
- Jimmy Barnes - $580
- Emma Snowsill - $440
The silent auction was also a hit with the top item selling for
$1200. Other silent auction items included artwork, AFL memorabilia,
gift hampers and a bike.
Overall, it was a night of glamour and excitement, featuring a delicious
three-course meal and live entertainment from band, Replay. Guests were
particularly impressed with the fun, friendly and uplifting vibe of the
unique venue.
The Warwick Foundation would like to thank all the generous celebrities
who signed and donated their shoes, and all the generous sponsors
particularly the gold sponsors The Age, Atlantic Group, Blush
Photography, Fitness First, Mitre 10, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, PLP
